Dr. David Nash is the founding Dean of the Jefferson
School of Population Health created in 2008 which offers four different ingenious
programs that are intended to improve the quality of healthcare leaders for the
future. The programs that Nash helped create are the Masters Programs in Public
Health, Healthcare Quality and Safety, Health Policy, and Applied Health Economics.
As a well-known national leader, Dr. Nash helped to alter healthcare workplaces
to be able to be accountable and self-evident for all outcomes. The
structure-process-outcome paradigm, also known as Donabedian’s health care
quality model, is used in healthcare organizations for analyzing health care
quality. The model does this by concentrating on improving the structure of
care, improving clinical processes, and improving the patient outcome. Dr. Nash
identified the weaknesses in the SPO model and created an updated version that focuses
on the skills and data that are vital for quality management theory, medical
practice tools and health outcomes; this new version is known as The Three
Faces of Quality. The first face, quality management theory, stresses the need
for health care workers to seek quality improvement to comprehend the forms of knowledge
that comprise of statistics. The second face, medical practice tools, are a set
of tools that enable users to document how care is provided to patients,
present comparisons to other providers, and provide information to help with medical
decision making. The ideal objective of medical practice tools is to administer
physicians with information to clarify and guide the health care delivery
process. Lastly, outcomes management is a system to monitor and provide health
care treatment. This could result in decreasing patient length of stay,
decreasing healthcare costs, and improving overall clinical patient outcomes. The
