REFLECTION PAPER – “The Prince of Egypt – Moses”
Back in elementary, our teacher made us watch the movie “The Prince of Egypt.” This film was a memorable film that really touched my heart. From the climax of the film for me, it was when the Red Sea was divided by God. This scene presented and proved that God is the only One Who can do everything and loves His people. Another event that I remember was when Moses met God on the Mount of Horeb. There were 10 miracles done by God in Egypt. Moses’ faith had been shaken when God told Moses to bring out Israelites out of the Egypt. These events made me realize the importance of the things and the presence of God. I felt that God loves His people as I was watching the film. Israelites became slave to Egypt because they lose hold of God’s covenant and they did not rely on God. For almost 400 years, they suffered under Egypt but God was waiting for His people to come back to Him. I felt that we people can make mistakes and sometimes we forget the fact that there is God around us all the time.
God did not forsake His people but raised Moses to save and guide His people. This is the reason why God divided the Red Sea. When Israelites were about to cross the Red Sea, God divided it for Moses. However when the Israelites were crossing the Red Sea, He let the water flow again which resulted drowning the Egyptians and all swept by the water. I learned that through all times, God does not reject His people nor forsake His people like in Psalms 94:14 and God does love His people as shown in Jeremiahs 29:11.
For me, the message of God from the Exodus event is that we should believe in God. In Exodus 14:13, Moses told his people who are afraid in front of the Red Sea, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” There are times that my faith is being shaken and give up easily since I don’t have faith in myself. Whenever this happens to me, I had to go back to God again and again so I just believe in Him and guide me. Just like Moses, who also told God that he cannot deliver Israelites. “I am slow of speech and tongue, I cannot speak very well, or who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” But God attached Aaron to Moses to speak for him and guided Moses by His arm. Whom will I believe? I think there is only God Who knows me more than I and loves me more than any other people. Yes, I am very lacking and many times I made mistakes and also get discouraged. But I think God is guiding me as He guided Moses even he was also weak. So all I have to do is just to believe on Him.
The interpretation of Exodus Event is that we need to apply the Blood of the Lamb in our lives. In tenth miracle, Israelites put the Blood of the Lamb on the doors so the angels over pass those doors. Blood of the Lamb symbolized the Blood of Jesus Christ. We are saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ, so we have to believe in our Lord Jesus Christ.
I was challenged that I need to do my daily meditation on God such as reading the Bible and praying to God consistently as Daniel did. It is vague that we do nothing but say that we believe in God. I have to receive the spiritual strength daily from God’s Word and prayer so that I will be witness of God in Acts 1:8. Really, God does give me strength and courage when I meditate and pray to God, But when I fall in unbelief and do nothing, I was in powerlessness. God does love me a lot. So I want to believe in God and pray to God.
I also want to be honest before God, There are times that I do not meditate on His Word and do as I want because I’m not perfect. But whenever I face that situation, I want to confess that “I’m not perfect. Sometimes I want to do as I want so please understand me and give me strength to rely on your Word and prayer.” I really want to be like Moses whom the Lord knew face to face as in Deuteronomy 34:10 as I watched the film.
Back in my high school, there was Ptra. Hannah Bae who tried to guide me in God’s Word. I think she was my Moses. She was man of prayer and really prayed to God for our Koreans. Whenever I told her that I don’t believe that there is God and did not attend the worship service, she understood me and said, “It’s ok. There will be a time that you will believe God and trust Him.” She really understood my state of mind and therefore not scolded me, but waited for me as she prayed. Sadly, she passed away in 2014 due to her health problem and age. I believe that she is in heaven and still praying for me. Through her prayer, I think I could be trained in God’s Word.
She was really my Moses who took care of me as Moses guided the Israelites with following God’s Word in Exodus Event. I am now really thankful to God that I met the man of prayer. Still, sometimes I’m afraid of my future and doubt whether I will be okay or not even though I continue keep going with God because I don’t have big evidences like God’s people in the Bible. But I think God will also guide me as He guided Moses and Ptra. Hannah who trust in God. Really the blessing of the meeting is very important. Whom we meet will change my life, our lives.
Whom God used are the people who believe in God. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see as in Hebrews 11:1. Joseph, Moses, Isaiah, David, Daniel, Peter, Paul, and many other God’s people are used by God because of course, it is by God’s grace that they believe in God Himself. God sees our heart and not our outer appearance like in I Samuel 16:7. Peter was the fisherman, Joseph was the slave, David was the shepherd, and Moses even killed the person. But God saw their true heart and used them. I believe that modern-day “Moses” are the people who trust in Him with his whole heart. Then, everything and evangelism will take place as in 3 John 1:2 that everything will take place if you trust and believe in Him. Those Moses will guide the people so that we will all experience the Exodus Event and those works in the Lord will not be in vain as in I Corinthians 15:58.
